Away Day – What a Day !!

On Saturday 26th April, some 30 of our confirmation candidates spent the day at Bishop Challoner School, in Shortlands, with their catechists and Fr Bryan. The day was led by the charismatic and dynamic Jackie Poole (Head of RE at St Thomas the Apostle, Nunhead). Jackie kept us on our toes all day with ice-breakers, singing, PowerPoint presentations, drama, art work and then – finally – celebration of Mass in the dining hall of the school. The theme was Gifts:

a) our personal gifts

b) gifts of the Spirit, and

c) gifts of the Spirit as seen in a 20th century Christian (such as Mother Teresa, Oscar Romero, Maximillian Kolbe, etc.)

The weather was great, and there was a terrific sense of community and sharing – all leading towards the imparting of the Holy Spirit at Confirmation on 15th May. The young people will be meeting again on Saturday 14th June, when they will be presenting the 6.00pm Mass, and then partying afterwards. Many thanks again to all the catechists, and especially to Jackie, for a wonderful day!
