Saturday 6th September SOS from Southborough Lane Baptist Church – help required for some Petts Wood residents who are clearing the litter and fly-tipped rubbish from the western end of Sparrow Wood, between 10.00am and 1.00pm. Could you spare an hour or so? If so please ring Neil Le Tissier on 01689 828547. At 4.15pm, we welcome through Holy Baptism, Andrea Therese Carland (4 months), her parents Caroline and Liam, and godparents Theresa and John. Monday 8th September A new group of Journey in Faith will start at 8.00pm in the Presbytery. This is mainly for non-Catholics (18 years plus) who would like to learn a little more about the Catholic Faith. Simply turn up on the night! Catholic Women's League meet at 8.00pm in the Social Centre. Tuesday 9th September Sequence Tea Dance from 1.30-2.30pm for beginners, and the usual tea sequence dance from 2.30-4.30pm. Please support and pick up a flyer in the porch. Justice & Peace Group meet in the Social Centre. More members are very welcome. Topics to include – all the latest from Rachel and Paul in Peru who are having a very hard time, parish support for the Manna Centre, Fairtrade, Traidcraft, Environmental issues. Wednesday 10th September Firm Believers fun fitness class resumes in the Social Centre.
Click here for further details. Thursday 11th September Youth Group Leader's meeting at 8.00pm. Friday 12th September Wedding of Joanne Bass and Martin Collins at 2.00pm. We wish the couple every blessing for their married life together. Saturday 13th September Junior & Senior Youth Group celebration at 3.45pm (for all St James' young people in school years 7-10). St James’ Pre-School is 25 in September! Please come and help us celebrate our Silver Jubilee at 6.00pm Mass today and afterwards in the Social Centre. Anyone who has been involved in the Pre School (staff, pupils or parents) over the past 25 years would be very welcome. Please pass on this date to others who might still be in the area.
Sue David. Sunday 14th September Five in One Collection. We will have a second collection for five good causes: Catholic Education Service, Communications, Apostleship of the Sea, Racial Justice and Catholic Youth Service. Our offering will be divided equally between these causes. This has been the custom in the parish for many years and cuts down on the number of second collections. Tuesday 16th September Coloma School (Croydon) Open Day for year 7 (11+) from 7.00-9.00pm. Other days will be held in October, including those for Sixth Form.
See Coloma website. Sunday 21st September Special welcome Mass at 11.30am for all children baptised here since last October (29 in all) followed by lunch in the Social Centre. Parents have been invited but please let Fr Bryan know if you have been left out! It is also Home Mission Sunday and there will be a second collection. This will support CASE (
Catholic Agency to Support Evangelisation). Saturday 27th September Golden Wedding Mass for Sheila and Fred Kitchen at 3.00pm. We wish Sheila and Fred every blessing and many more years of happily married life. Youth Group Meeting 3.45-5.45pm. The theme will be World Challenge in Botswana. All St James' young people in years 7-10 are welcome. Knights of Columba Annual Seminar at Aylesford from 2.00-4.00pm. Fr Timothy Finigan will consider the question: ‘The Church, fit for Mission?’. There will be a break for refreshments followed by questions. Tuesday 23rd September Petts Wood Churches Together – AGM and meeting at the Quaker Meeting House 8.15pm. Saturday 27th September We welcome through Holy Baptism at 4.15pm), Ryan Michael Cumberbatch (4 months), his parents Claire and David and godparents Lisa and John. Monday 29th September CWL meeting in the Social Centre. Tuesday 30th September Sequence Tea Dance from 1.30-2.30pm for beginners, and the usual tea sequence dance from 2.30-4.30pm. Please support and pick up a flyer in the porch. Tuesdays from 16th September to 7th October A Deanery Youth Training Course is being hosted at St James'. The course will run on four consecutive Tuesdays starting 16th September. 3rd session of four will be at 8.00pm on 30th September in the Social Centre .
