Wednesday 1st October
Welcomers Meeting at 8.00pm in the Social Centre.  Please consider becoming a welcomer on a monthly rota.  This is a very important ministry.
 
Friday 3rd October
CAFOD Family Fast Day (please bring your offering on Sunday).   Remember that the Church asks us to do some form of penance every Friday.
 
Saturday 4th October
We welcome through Holy Baptism at 4.15pm, Joseph Philip Curran (2 years) and Emily Alice Curran (4 months), their parents Felicity & Daniel and godparents Lucy, Zoe, John & Joe.
 
A concert by St Francis Church Choir at St Francis Church, Willett Way, starting 7.30pm.
 
Sunday 5th October
CAFOD Family Fast Day collection to be taken up (from fasting on Friday 3rd).
 
Tuesday 7th October
Baptism Preparation evening from 8.00–9.15pm.  This is for parents of all children who will be baptised here between October and Christmas.  Please meet in the Presbytery (No 281A).  A second evening has been arranged for 4th November.  If you have not received a personal invite for either of these evenings please contact Clare in the parish office.
 
Wednesday 8th October
St James Pre School will tour the church at 10.15am.
 
The last of four Deanery Youth Training Course being hosted at St James' at 8.00pm in the Social Centre.
 
Coloma School (Croydon) Open Day for Sixth Form (post 16) from 7.00-9.00pm.
 
Saturday 11th October
Coloma School (Croydon) Open Day for Year 7 (11+) and Sixth Form (post 16) from 10.00am-12noon.
St James’  Youth Group trip to Orpington Bowl.  This is open to all years 7-10.  Meet at the Bowl at 3.30pm BUT you must register your name with Suzy Paris beforehand.
 
We welcome through Holy Baptism Freddie David Bridle (11 months), his parents Martin & Anna and godparents Tom and Laura (Sat 3.30pm); and Olivia May Somerville (6 years), her parents Stephen and Aga and godparents Ewan and Agnieszka (Sat 4.15pm).
 
Weekend of 11-12th October
Harvest Festival Masses will once again be supporting the Manna Centre.  Please bring food stuffs (NOT toiletries or clothing).  Details on flyer available in the porch.  You will be invited to bring your gifts up during the offertory procession at all Masses that weekend.
 
Also this weekend, there will be a second collection for the Needs of the Diocese.  The financial Secretary has written appealing for generous support for this fund, which is to be used to assist poorer parishes with necessary building projects.
 
Saturday 18th October
"The Romantic ‘Cello" – a recital in St James' church starting at 7.30pm.  This will be a rare opportunity to hear renowned musicians Tim Wells (‘cello) and Dominique Wong-Min (piano).  The proceeds will support the work of St James’ School PTA.  There will be a voluntary retiring collection and the evening will include cheese and wine during interval.  A popular programme in aid of our parish school appeal for playground improvements.
 
Sunday 19th October
'Face to Face' – Ann Widdecombe speaks with Rev. Paul Hulme at the Methodist Church at 6.30pm.  Most of you know that she is a convert to the Catholic Church and the session should be highly stimulating!  Do go if you can; there is a poster in the porch.
 
Monday 20th October
CWL Ladies will be visiting St Jude’s Shrine, Faversham.  Train from Bromley South.  Please bring packed lunch.  The contact is Win Taylor (email via Parish Office).
 
Journey in Faith from 8.00-9.30pm at 281A Crescent Drive.  Any non-Catholic (especially those married to Catholics) are most welcome to this group, on the basics of the Catholic Faith.  Note there will be no meeting on 27th October.

St James’  Youth Group Leaders' meeting in the Social Centre at 8.00pm.
 
Saturday 25th October
We welcome, through Holy Baptism at 4.15pm, Niamh Mary Clifford (1 year) and her parents Sarah and Anthony and godparents Maurice, Rachel and Catherine.

One World Week: Week of Prayer for World Peace.
 
Weekend Masses 25/26th October
The Justice & Peace Group has arranged for David Murray from CAFOD to speak about his organisation's work.  The 6.00pm Mass on Saturday will be a Youth Mass.  We hope family and friends will come and support our young people who will preparing and presenting Mass.
 
Monday 27th October
No Journey in Faith meeting this evening.
CWL meeting in the Social Centre at 8.00pm.
 
Tuesday 28th to Friday 31st October
Children’s Holiday Club on each morning for children in years 3-6.  This is open to children of all Petts Wood churches, and is during half-term week.  Please register your child for this exciting week and if possible contact Suzanne Horner to volunteer as a helper.  It's a great way to bring our communities together and to nurture our children’s faith in Jesus Christ and – judging by last year – great fun!!
