Sunday 2nd November
Bandi Mbubi from the Manna Centre will describe the work of this organisation in giving assistance to the poor and homeless.  St James' will be collecting items of clothing, food, toiletries, etc. on a regular basis each month.  This is one of the initiatives of the Justice & Peace Group.
 
The Children’s Holiday Club Presentation will take place at 2.30pm in the Southborough Baptist church, and be followed by tea.  The course was a great success – many thanks to all who supported!
 
Mondays 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th November
KNOWING GOD BETTER
If you would like to get more out of your faith then come along on Mondays at 1.30pm or 8.00pm, starting on 3rd November in the Social Centre.  There will be 6 relaxed sessions of video presentation and discussion of the Faith.  All warmly welcome!
 
Tuesday 4th November
Baptism Preparation evening from 8.00–9.15pm.  This is for parents of all children who will be baptised here between October and Christmas.  Please meet in the Presbytery (No 281A).  If you have not received a personal invite for this evening please contact Clare in the parish office.  This is in addition to the evening taking place on 7th October.
 
Saturday 8th November
in Baptism, we welcome Jessica Rose Guyton (18 months), parents Belinda and Andrew and godparents Jennifer, Corey, Mark and Nichola; and James Ross Macfadyen (18 months), parents Clare and David, and godparents Medeleine, Kathleen and Darren.
 
Weekend Masses 8/9th November
Collection of toiletries for the Manna Centre.  Please bring disposable razors, shampoo, shaving foam, hand soap, toilet rolls, deodorants, etc. for collection at each Mass.
 
Sunday 9th November
Christmas Choir practice starts for the 'Thrice Welcome Christmas' carol service (21st December and Midnight Mass).  Practices will be from 3.30-5.00pm and all singers are welcome, but a firm commitment is essential.  John Rutter’s music will feature in the programme.
 
Tuesday 11th November
Remembrance Day.  If you are at work, ask your office manager to suggest that staff observe a one minute silence at 11am.
 
Justice & Peace Group meet in the Social Centre at 8.00pm.  It needs your support on one or more projects currently being undertaken, including Environmental issues, Paul and Rachel in Peru, The Manna Centre, Fairtrade and assistance for refugees.
 
Thursday 13th November
St James’ School Open Morning – there is a poster about this in the church porch.
 
Friday 14th November
St James' School PTA Shopping Evening.  From 7.30pm in the St James' School Hall.  Tickets £3.00 (including a glass of wine) from Sue David or on the door.
 
Saturday 15th November
A young people's choir for the Vigil Christmas Mass will start rehearsals from 2.45-3.45pm under the guidance of Pauline Fabbricatore in the Social Centre.  This is for children and young people to sing for the reinstated 6.00pm Mass on Christmas Eve.
 
We welcome through Holy Baptism at 4.15pm, Folasade Zuri Alessandra Shittu, her parents Jeanine & Ibukunolu and godparents, Chantelle, Sharon, Anjanette and Toba.
 
Sunday 16th November
Christmas Choir second practice this afternoon at 3.30pm – All singers welcome to prepare music for Carol Service on 21st December and Midnight Mass.
 
Roly the Clown at Christ Church, Willett Way, 4.00pm – a rare opportunity and highly recommended.  St James’ people are warmly invited.  Roly Bain is a clown and also an Anglican priest.  Suitable for all, including young children (poster in church porch).
 
Saturday 22nd November
St James’ Youth Group is holding a quiz with prizes 3.45–5.45pm.  Open to years 7-10.  Young people's choir practice at 2.45pm.
 
Sunday 23rd November

Taizé Service by candlelight at Christ Church, Willett Way at 7.30pm for all the Petts Wood churches.  There will be a rehearsal for singers on Thursday 20th November 8.00pm at Christ Church.  All warmly welcome to this meditative celebration.
 
Monday 24th November
CWL meeting at 7.45pm in the Pre School room.
 
Friday 28th November
St James’ Pre School toys, clothes and equipment sale (10am – 12noon).
 
Saturday 29th November
Turning on the Lights.  Petts Wood Business Association is running stalls on both sides of the railway from 10.00am-5.00pm.  All the churches have been invited to participate.  This is a wonderful opportunity for outreach – let’s not blow it!  If you can spare an hour or two to help serve hot chocolate on the church stall outside the Rainbow Bookshop, and also give out publicity about the churches, please contact Fr Owen Higgs (Vicar of St Francis’).  Let’s have really good support for this from St James’.
 
Saturday 29th November
We welcome at 4.15pm, through Holy Baptism, Connie Ellen Caple (4½ months), her parents Claire and Jamie and godparents Natalie, Shula, Daniel and Ian.
 
St.Michael and All Angels Locksbottom Parish Social at 7.30pm in our Social Centre.  St James’ people warmly invited.  They are raising funds for their Presbytery refurbishment.  Tickets are £5.

Pre School cake sale and raffle after 10.00am and 11.30am Masses.
