Relics of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux
The relics of Saint Thérèse visit England and Wales this month. Nearest venues for our parish are 09-10 Oct at Aylesford, and 12-15 Oct at Westminster Cathedral. You can read about this historic event here.
Sheila Simon has organised a coach to Aylesford for Friday 9th October when St Thérèse’s relics will arrive there (leave St James' at 11.00am and arrive back at about 7.00pm).
On Saturday 10th October (the next day), Archbishop Kevin will be celebrating Mass there at 11.30am. No coach for this but if you are going and could offer one or two car places please sign list in porch and network accordingly. We are encouraged to support these events which will be very significant in the life of the Catholic Church in England, and which will hopefully bear much fruit.
Friday 2nd October
CAFOD Family Fast Day. Eat less so that someone else can eat a little more! Envelopes for your offering will be at the back of the church.
Saturday 3rd October
Readers and Eucharistic Ministers Day of Recollection with Bishop Pat at Bishop Thomas Grant School, Streatham. Please enter your name in the porch if you intend to go. Please return your own form as requested.
Tuesday 6th October - Parish survey/Parish Forum
Meeting at which the analysis of the survey carried out during the summer, concerning the significant development of our hall/ social centre, will be presented. We need a really large turn-out for this meeting which could have many implications for our common life together here at St James’. This is for the whole parish and we hope every family will be represented. Please book the date now!
Saturday 10th October
Saturday Servers’ practice 10.30-11.30am and all servers should be present please.
Youth Group meet from 3.45-5.45pm with fun, games, and talk by local vet. ALL in years 7-11 warmly welcome. Parents: please encourage the young people.
Weekend 10/11th October
Includes Harvest Sunday. Please bring tins and dried foods for the Manna Centre to all Masses. Also there will be a second collection for the Needs of the Diocese.
Tuesday 13th October
Justice and Peace Group meet at 8.00pm in the Social Centre. Yolande and Ken Wright (parishioners) will lead a session on working for the International Development Agency in Cambodia, and Ken will also speak about climate change (he is a professional in this field). Let’s have a really good attendance for Yolande and Ken before they return to Cambodia at the end of the month.
Saturday 17th October
We welcome at 4.30pm, through Holy Baptism, Emelia Hannah Saunders (4 months), her parents Marianne and Mark, and godparents Jennifer and Dean.
In Christ Church URC, Willett Way, starting at 6.30pm there will be a presentation by the Missionary Aviation Fellowship – a network of Christians working in the aviation industry. This is a Churches Together sponsored event.
Sunday 18th October
Archbishop Kevin McDonald will make his first visit to our parish. He will celebrate 10.00am Mass and preach at 11.30am, and will then lunch in the presbytery. We look forward to his visit and he will be keen to greet as many of our parishioners as possible.
Mondays 5th, 19th October
Journey in Faith (RCIA course for non Catholics) is now held fortnightly from 7.30–9.00pm at 281A Crescent Drive. Relaxed, warm, open and Catholic spouses are most welcome too!
Wednesday 21st October
St James' School Harvest Mass in church at 9.30am.
Weekend 24/25th October
We welcome Fr Joseph Karukayil from St Joseph’s Bromley who will be presiding at all Masses.
Monday 26th October
CWL meeting at 7.30pm; a guest speaker Elaine Budden will talk about sending Christmas shoe boxes to Romania. All parishioners welcome.
