What was on in September 2009
Thursday 3rd September Finance Committee meeting in the Presbytery at 10.15am. Joint PAT/MaP meeting in the Social Centre at 8.00pm. Thursday 3rd September Lectio Divina – from 2.00-5.00pm at the Petts Wood Quaker Meeting House. Entitled 'Knowing the Heart of God through the Word of God, led by Sister Catherine, (of the Wanstead Convent of Mercy. Phone Judy Crowson (01689-891320). Lectio Divina is simply a way of reading the scriptures prayerfully. Saturday 5th September We welcome through Holy Baptism, Thomas Joseph Molloy (10 months), his parents Joanne and Joseph, and godparents Ruth, Rachel, Joseph and Nolan. Monday 7th September CWL meeting at 8.00pm in the Social Centre. Journey in Faith (present group) at 8.00pm in the Presbytery. A new group will start on 21st September – green flyers in the porch. Tuesday 8th September Justice & Peace Group meet at 8.00pm. A very special meeting with Jim Simmons, the new manager for CAFOD, Southwark. Jim will give a PowerPoint presentation about many of CAFOD’s current projects, including its work with HIV/AIDS sufferers. Please support this evening by coming along and hearing about this good work. Wednesday 9th September 9.30am Mass with St James’ School. Firm Believers, our inter-church fun-fitness class restarts 7.00–7.45 pm. Any queries to Doreen Hairs. Weekend 12/13th September Will be the “5 in 1” collection. The parish has done this for many years to cut down on the number of second collections. The five are: Apostleship of the Sea, Day for Life, Catholic Association for Racial Justice, Catholic Association for the Support of Evangelisation and Catholic Youth Services. Please be generous in your support of all of these church-based groups. Also Linnette will be with us again to sell Fairtrade goods after each Mass. We greatly appreciated her visit last March and we hope you will support her again. Saturday 19th September We welcome at 4.30pm through Holy Baptism, Sophie Emily Sudario Mulhall (13 months), her parents Malka and Joseph, and godparents Mary and Graham. Sat/Sunday 19/20th September St Patrick's Missionary Society appeal at all Masses. "Leave the Car at Home Not at Church" weekend. Full details here. Sunday 20th September The Children’s Liturgy Group starts again at 10.00am Mass. A reminder that this is for children aged 3 (no younger) to children in year 2 (aged 7). If any parent wishes to be involved (Mums or Dads) please contact Liz Lawrence. Click here for online rotas. Monday 21st September New Journey in Faith course (RCIA) begins at 281A, Crescent Drive. Starting with coffee at 8.00pm, this is for non-Catholics (18+) who would like to learn about the Catholic Faith and Catholic spouses are most welcome. We end promptly at 9.30pm (green fliers in porch). Informal, relaxed! Simply turn up! Monday & Tuesday 21st/22nd September Lectio Divina at Rosary Church, Hayes on 21st and 22nd September (option of two mornings or two evenings). Full details in porch. Tuesday 22nd September - Postponed due to clash with School event Parish Forum in the Social Centre at 8.00pm when the results of the survey about possible development will be presented and discussed. Will now be held on 6th October Wednesday 23rd September Baptism preparation evening for parents who have been informed (8.00pm at 281A Crescent Drive). Saturday 26th September Youth Group outing to Orpington Superbowl. Meet there at 3.15pm. Please email Suzy Paris to confirm your place. We welcome at 3.45pm, through Holy Baptism, James Duncan Wright (4 months), his parents Yolande and Kenneth and godparents Sarah, Michelle and Mitch; and at 4.30pm Isabella Lucilla Gallafent (2½ years) her parents Victoria and Kevin and godparents Andrew, Anna, Faye and Fod. Sunday 27th September Bernard White from CAFOD will speak at each morning Mass. Family Fast Day is on Friday 2nd October. Monday 28th September CWL meeting at 7.30pm followed at 8.15pm by a talk “Vision Aid Overseas” to be given by Deacon Peter Varnes. Please bring unwanted spectacles (or next Sunday). ALL most welcome. Wednesday 30th September Mass will be at 9.00am (please note the time) in St James’ School with Year 4. Coffee, etc. will be served in school after the Mass. This Wednesday arrangement will happen two or three times each term. We are very keen to develop the already excellent relationship between the school and the parish and the school is keen to welcome parishioners on these occasions. The next such Mass will be on Wednesday 11th November. Firm Believers fun-fitness! Wednesday from 7.00 to 7.45pm in the Social Centre. All abilities welcome (£4). These sessions will be changing permanently to Tuesdays from 6th October.
