Training to become a Catechist
The Catechists’ course is designed to give people confidence in all the areas below and will apply to a broad range of people (e.g. children’s liturgy leaders, young parents, etc). If you are questioning whether you are suitable to do this – then you probably are just what St James' is looking for! There are forms in the porch and the course starts on 4th November 2009, with an overview of the material to be covered. The first session would be a good way of finding out if this is for you.
Some comments about becoming a Catechist:
• no previous knowledge needed;
• helping one or two couples in baptism preparation;
• it will enable you to help a very small group prepare for confirmation;
• perhaps to help younger children (at non-Catholic schools) prepare for first Holy Communion;
• perhaps contribute one or two sessions to the Journey in Faith programme
The classes are held on Wednesday evenings at 7.45pm and will be run in two segments:
4th November to 2nd December 2009 (5 sessions)
6th January to 10th February 2010 (6 sessions)
