St James' School Autumn term starts.
Weekend 4/5th September
Our second special collection for You Touch Africa, the charity set up by Fr Arbo Lekule to help the disadvantaged in Tanzania and other African countries. The Justice and Peace Group has selected this as their main initiative for 2010-11. The idea is that the families of St James' should eat less, or perform some other act of self-denial, on the previous Friday and the money saved be brought to Mass this weekend. The remaining dates for 2010 will be 6/7th November and 4/5th December. If you pay UK tax please use one of the special gift aid envelopes available at the back of church.

Justice & Peace Group meeting at 8.00pm in the Social Centre, with visiting speaker talking about Sierra Leone.

Meeting for ALL adults involved with Children's Liturgy (including new volunteers) at 8.00pm.
Thursday 9th September
Parent and Toddler Group resumes from 1.30-3.00pm today and will be every Thursday during school term. New parents and children aged 0-5 always welcome. See this page for contact details. Pastoral and Advisory Team meets at 7.45pm in the Presbytery.
Saturday 11th September
Readers' Training Workshop from 9.30am to 1.00pm in church. All readers are requested to collect the letter about training and return the reply slip to the Mass Intentions box in the porch (also marked for Readers Day) as soon as possible.
We welcome through Holy Baptism at 4.30pm, William Max Torpy (3 months), his parents Max and Silvia and godparents, Silvia and Benjamin.

“5 in 1” second collection today for: the Catholic Education Service; Apostleship of the Sea; Day for Life; Catholic Association for Racial Justice; and Catholic Youth Services. Please give generously to the five charities. Your offering is divided equally between them.

Meeting for the present group of Evangelium at 8.30pm. All members of the group should bring baptismal certificates and sponsor names in preparation for their reception into the Church on 26th September. Attendance at this meeting is essential.
Wednesday 15th September
St James' School Mass at 9.30am in church.
Thursday 16th September
Presentation to the parish of possible outline schemes to develop the Social Centre. The architect will talk about three schemes and show what they might look like. The meeting will be held in the church and start at 8.00pm.
Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th September
The visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the United Kingdom. Full details of this historic event on the official website. Pilgrim groups from St James' are attending the Hyde Park Prayer Vigil on Saturday and the Beatification of Cardinal Newman at Cofton Park on Sunday. We wish them safe and rewarding journeys.

We welcome through Holy Baptism at 2.00pm, Harry Sanderson (6 months), his parents Lewis and Victoria and godparents Emma, Thomas and Nadine; and at 4.30pm Louisa Carland (3 months), her parents Liam and Caroline and godparents Theresa and Matthew.
Sunday 26th September
Eight new Catholic adults will be received into full communion with the Church at 10.00am Mass. We welcome Melanie Deasey, Suzanne Horner, Helen James, Joanna Markey, Eileen Owen, Victoria Simpson, and Annya, Colin and Phoebe (5 years) Dinsdale.
Taizé style service at 7.00pm. A very meditative service using the haunting Taizé music. Everyone is most welcome and especially young people. Do come and pray with the beautiful Taizé music. This is a prayerful and reflective celebration, attracting more and more people each month.
Monday 27th September
The funeral of Dr Cornel DaCosta who died suddenly on 10th September. Requiem Mass at 12 noon followed by commital at Lewisham Crematorium (by invitation only). Drinks will be served in the hall after Mass, and snacks at 2.30pm followed by a meal at 3.45pm. RSVP for catering purposes only if attending to Nancy DaCosta. Tuesday 28th September
Informal evening for non-Catholics enquiring about the Evangelium course. This will be held in the Social Centre at 8.30pm and Catholic spouses are most welcome to attend. Evangelium will run on Tuesday evenings for the 2010-11 course.
Wednesday 29th September (meeting postponed)
A meeting for parents of children in Years 7 and 8 at 8.00pm to discuss on-going spiritual formation, especially for children at non Catholic schools. Parents please attend this very important meeting.
