Welcome to our FIRST edition of the
Bi-annual Servers Newsletter!
Following the excellent introduction to serving at St James' by Niamh Wakefield on Sunday 13th June during the two masses, we are now launching the first edition of what will start as a bi-annual newsletter which will provide an opportunity to keep the whole parish updated on various Altar server activities and also to celebrate this very valuable ministry carried out by the young people of our parish.  This first edition comes at
a very exciting time for Altar servers as we have re-launched the Guild of St Stephen in the parish adding structure to our existing model. In addition, we are actively recruiting new servers of any age! Altar serving is open to anyone once they have received their First Holy Communion. There will be a programme for full training and there will be the opportunity to become a member of the Guild of St Stephen.

The mass was a lovely celebration and all the servers really enjoyed being part of it. Afterwards we joined the (long) queue of other servers, to have our photo taken with Archbishop Vincent, before coming back to Petts Wood filled with motivation.

We arrived in good time to have lunch on the steps of the cathedral, before assembling in a meeting hall ‘back stage’ of the cathedral to get registered and robed up. Since we were there early we had the pleasure of being asked for a server for the mass and Jamie David volunteered to be the bishop’s mitre bearer. Just before 2.30pm we
