You can walk, cycle, come by bus or train or camel, but try as hard as you can to resist driving.

WHY are we suggesting this?
It is a token gesture that, as Catholics in Petts Wood, we have respect for the environment.
By this action, Petts Wood will be polluted just a tiny bit less.
To remind us that the CAFOD entreaty to Live Simply can be rewarding   ̶  and good for our health!
It is a Justice & Peace issue because care of the environment is a matter of justice and has consequences, especially for the world’s poor.

NOTES to help the unsure
A healthy person can walk 2½-3 mph (even with a push chair).
The longest walk from a house, within the geographical parish boundary, to St James' is 1.7 miles.
There are lots of train and bus routes to Petts Wood (see below).
Fr Bryan will be on the corner of Queensway and Nightingale Road at 9.30 and will leave for church at 9.40, showing his support for the event.  We hope that many parishioners, especially children, will want to walk with him.
If you live a long way away, leave your car at least as far away as this and join Fr Bryan at 9.30.  There are no parking restrictions in Queensway on Sundays.
Whichever Mass you plan to attend, if you live a long way from church and don't have convenient access to public transport, try leaving the car a mile away and do the rest on foot (or drive to your nearest station or 208 bus stop).
If you always come to Mass by car, it will be an adventure for children and help them to appreciate those who have to walk for hours to attend Mass in under-developed countries.
It will be an excellent chance to make use of our new bike stands.
Leave the Car at Home - NOT at Church
19-20th September 2009
Tuesday 22nd September has been designated European In Town Without My Car Day!  Many churches up and down the country are organising a Car Free Sunday to mark this European initiative.  The Justice & Peace Group, along with the youth of the parish, invite parishioners to come to Mass without their cars on Sat/Sun 19/20th September, if they possibly can.  Please support this if you are physically able to.
