Gift Aid from weekly offerings is an important source of income for the parish. We currently expect to receive 28p for every £1 put in the named envelopes. Geoff Ford is the parish's Gift Aid Administrator and he will be delighted to speak to anyone who isn't yet in the scheme but would like more details. Geoff is normally around between the two Sunday morning Masses.
Remember, the 28p in the £ is gained by the parish at absolutely no cost to the contributor. Could Gift Aid donors please advise if they have NOT paid sufficient tax to cover their donations as this is a legal requirement.
For your information, although the basic rate of income tax was reduced from 22% to 20% on 6th April 2008, the Chancellor has announced that charities will be able to recover tax on Gift Aided donations at the old rate (28 pence for each £1 given) until the end of the 2010/11 tax year. This means that the negative effect on charitable income is delayed until 2011, but still at no cost to the giver.
For those already in the scheme, Geoff writes: Thanks to all who gift-aided their 1st and 2nd collection offerings during the past tax year. If there are any gift-aiders who are concerned that the tax they have paid is not at least equal to the refund we will seek, please contact me as soon as possible. If you wish to know the total recorded amount of your offerings (e.g. for a Tax Return HM Customs & Revenue) please also let me know.
Please let Geoff know if you move house, marry and change your name, or stop work and wish to transfer your Gift Aid Declaration into your tax paying spouse's name, or cease to pay tax entirely.
