St James’ is a vibrant parish offering numerous events for all members of the community to socialise and get to know each other:

The Autumn Festival provides an opportunity for our very diverse parish to share food and traditions from their countries.  This is always a wonderful event shared by all members of the parish.

The Catholic Women’s League (CWL) runs very popular whist and quiz nights.  Ten minutes of tuition before the Military Whist drive brings everyone up to speed and even non card players are able to participate in this table moving, flag gathering event.

Nothing speaks more of community than a Christmas Fayre and at St James’ creative juices flow as homemade decorations, candles and cards grace the tables alongside more food, accompanied by carol singing.  No better way to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.

Our youth join in the seasonal joy by organising successful quiz nights with opportunities to renew old friendships and make new ones.

The Parish Overseas Project for 2017-2019 supported St Catherine’s parish in the Philippines. The success of our Filipino Fiesta was in no small part due to the wonderful Filipino members of the parish who provided the food, dancing and singing.  This was a joyous evening organised by the Justice and Peace Group.

Members of the 2018 Confirmation group put together a fun evening of quiz, Karaoke and food with the proceeds once again supporting our parish project.  These young people showed their great organisational and team building skills to deliver an enjoyable evening for all.

Our very young members enjoy the annual Easter Egg hunt, and the combination of chocolate eggs and fluffy chicks always prove irresistible.

A new venture in the parish is the monthly Film Night.  This very relaxed gathering where parishioners and friends can bring their own food, have a drink and a chat, and then watch the film.  This is already proving to be an enjoyable format.

Other regular and popular events include:

  • Teddy Bears Picnic organised by the CWL, for our very youngest members, and their teddy bears
  • Summer Garden Party and Fun Run which is held in June/July. Look out for all the notices and ways to get involved
  • New Year’s Eve Party
